Field Recordings were captured in the dense jungles, pristine waterfalls and ancient pyramid sites of Palenque Mexico. With jungle sounds that vary from early morning all the way through the late night, rain storms, ancient streams, thunder, fires and the sounds of cacao cooking these natural ambiances can set the tone for a powerful journey.

WHY PALENQUE?

Facts About Palenque, Mexico

Palenque has been shrouded in mystery for thousands of years. Home of the "Mayan Astronaut" and an incredible city of ancient pyramids of which 95% is still un-excavated.

The Tomb of Pakal is one of the great mysteries of Mayan History

Infamously known as the "Mayan Astronaut" (pictured to the right) the tomb of Pakal is one of the great mysteries of the Ancient Maya. Pakal was one of the most powerful kings in the Mayan world and his tomb is considered the King Tut of Mesoamerica. It was one of the greatest finds in the history of Mexico and was found buried deep within one of the Pyramids within Palenque's Archeological zone. The carving on the lid of his tomb still baffles archeologists to this day.

Palenque has a deep history with Cacao

Cacao grows wild in the jungles of Palenque and the Maya had a deep connection with the sacred medicine. On the side of Pakal's tomb, his mother is pictured as a cacao tree with cacao pods visibly growing from her body. Although largely still a secret, to this day Palenque harvests some of the best cacao in all of the world.

The Shamanic Culture of the Maya still lives in Palenque

The Mayan culture was said to have disappeared in 900AD however, there are still millions of descendants of the Ancient Maya still alive today in this region. The culture is still very much alive as seen in the photo below that was taken on the Winter Solstice in Palenque where ceremonies are still held to celebrate the traditions of their ancestors.
